I am an avid Tim Holtz fan. I am all about the Distress. My life, as I am sure yours does, get a little distressing at times. I like the idea of expressing that in a creative way. In case you did not already know, I like things to go in a straight line. I like clean almost to the point of obsession. For my house to get into disarray becomes a fine line I walk with depression. So having a purposeful creative outlet that forces me to let myself get dirty and for imperfection to be the goal is like an oasis I seek.
So when I noticed that he had a challenge going on I investigated further and lo and behold I already had something that fit in with what he was asking for. More than a year ago, I was making bags out of old jeans. I would take the legs from jeans from the rip in the knee down. Oh, did I say I had a young boy that was providing me with plenty of jeans that had huge holes in the knee. Oh well, I had plenty material to work with so I was crankin’ out these bags. the bottom of the leg became the top of the bag. Tattered, Torn and roughed up these bags are handy for grabbing all the little do-dads and whatsitz to carry to the car and are not going to make me angry when small people feet come into contact with them. So here I am with cuteness that needed a little embellishment.
See what I mean. Cuteness. Well, the Tattered Florals Die
is one of my faves and I have even included flowers made from it in my very first class kit. LOVE IT! Well, in order to get the most of my upcyled project I went looking for leftover fabric and found a long-sleeved t-shirt that I had loved to death and used it. Along with an old thermal fabric piece. I cut multiple flowers and stacked the pieces in what became my favorite part of this particular bag. Then I added a couple of other pieces of Tim Holtz goodies like a crown charm and a bauble or two and TA-DA. ( I tried voila, but it just didn’t look right).
Notice the piece that is in the middle? It is a button from blue jeans. This is a project that makes me smile so much that I have it hanging in my launch pad area of my house so that I pass it constantly.

I used my kids (and husbands) generous material donation to make a set of multi-colour denim patchwork curtains. They hang in my sons’ room, and are a little heavy, but block the light SO nicely! I love this idea, we use knapsacks for car rides right now, but sadly they are about to rip the bottoms out, so maybe this will be next!
Thanks
I love the heaviness of Jeans quilts and the blackout curtain idea would be great when we move back to Alaska. I may use your idea. The knapsacks made with jeans would definitely be a project that could be made with jeans. Maybe even the drawstring kind.
